Students organise themselves into and work in small groups throughout the paper. They will contribute to all aspects of building a medium-sized piece of software: developing requirements and specification; designing the system structure and interface; carrying out documentation, and implementation.

The first two weeks provide background material on intellectual property rights, agile methodology for software development, and professional behaviour in a commercial IT setting. It also provides an opportunity for students to meet with each other and form groups, and learn about the projects available. The weeks thereafter will be dedicated to making progress with the project, communicating this to the instructors, and producing the expected deliverables. Group meetings will take place weekly.

Assessment will be based on progress reported in the deliverables for proposal, requirements and design, a quiz on the lecture material and the final deliverable (report and presentation).

Samples of your work may be required as part of the Engineering New Zealand accreditation process for BE(Hons) degrees. Any samples taken will have the student name and ID redacted. If you do not want samples of your work collected then please email the engineering administrator, Natalie Shaw (natalie.shaw@waikato.ac.nz), to opt out.
